John trained at the Northern School of Music and Bretton Hall College. He teaches singing at a leading independent school, directs the Maia Singers and its youth choir, and is Conductor and Artistic Director of St Ann’s Hospice Festival Choir. He directs choral workshops and undertakes choir training, also accompanying and teaching. For five years was assistant Chorus master to the Hallé Choir. John’s work with developing young voices has led to commissions from composers including Alan Bullard, Andrew Carter, Douglas Coombes, Peter Hope and Donald Swann. A founder/trustee of The British Federation of Young Choirs, he is a member of The Association of British Choral Directors and an adjudicator for The British and International Federation of Festivals.
