Tanya Allen
Tanya trained at the RAD College and, upon leaving, performed in various pantomimes, operas, TV shows, documentaries and summer seasons. A period of freelance teaching followed before she opened her own school, where she has been training dancers and teachers ever since. It now has over 600 pupils and offers all aspects of dance including National, Greek and Musical Theatre.

Jill Baldock
Jill trained at Hilda Hylton Bromley School, The Place and Royal Academy of Dance. Professionally, she has worked as a dancer in the West End, on theatre shows, cruise ships and cabaret, and as a choreographer/ director/producer. Jill ran her own dance school and taught for both Derbyshire and Surrey Arts Councils also the Italia Conti School. Her career diverted into the music business, working for EMI, recording such artists as Shirley Bassey and Ruthie Henshall. Craig Bartley
Craig studied at the Jackie Lynn Dance Studios and Ballet Rambert School, with the BBO and IDTA. He has performed in West End and regional theatre and choreographed several shows and operas, including ‘La Traviata’ at the Royal Albert Hall. In the USA his credits include the original Broadway ‘Follies Royale’; TV includes two Royal Variety Performances and Eastenders; film includes ‘Nigel’ in Monty Python’s ‘Meaning of Life’. He has been a choreographer and director for cruise lines and professional production companies; teaches A level and BTEC in mainstream education; is Course Director and Head of Dance at Starquest; and teaches at seven other schools including Mountview, Millennium and Urdang. Janice Bird-Eden
Janice trained at the Bush Davies Schools of dancing Romford Essex. She is an examiner for Modern theatre and tap dance for the ISTD. After an extensive career as a dancer, working abroad and in London, credits include summer seasons in Greatt Yarmouth and Blackpool, Pantomimes, The London palladium and the Talk of the Town London. She also choreographed for E & B pantomimes and cabaret. Having run her own dancing school, she then went on to teach for Italia Conti academy of performing arts. Karen Blackburn
Karen appeared on TV at the age of six on ITV’s Junior Showtime, alongside Bonnie Langford and Lena Zavaroni. She trained at The Urdang Academy before going on to a successful performing career throughout the UK and abroad. She worked with Ballet Independiente (Mexico) and toured extensively throughout Germany with Spiel der Kräfte where two roles where created for her. She has worked as a freelance choreographer since 1988 including work for Euro Disney. Several former students are currently working with major ballet companies, in West End Musicals or on television. She is the Principal of her own Theatre Arts School in Hampshire. Janice Blake
Janice began her training in Macclesfield at her local dance school and, at the age of 13, won a contract to perform in the children’s ballet at Blackpool. As a teenager she appeared in six pantomimes at the Manchester Palace and many summer seasons around the UK. When married she changed her career to acting, performing in weekly and fortnightly rep and TV plays. Whilst acting she opened a very successful dance school which ran for over 30 years. Lynne Chilver
Lynne Chilver is the Principal of a busy and successful school in Hillingdon, Middlesex, which offers all Theatre Branch subjects. Former pupils have gone on to appear in shows in the West End, all over the UK and abroad. She is an examiner for the IDTA and has extensive experience of the Festival movement. Karen Collings
Karen trained at London College of Dance and Drama, built up a successful school in Devon and now works with full-time students teaching all aspects of dance and theatre studies, preparing them for professional training. She also heads the teachers training course at Totnes School of Dance, a registered ISTD centre. Karen is an examiner for the ISTD Modern, Tap and Classical Greek Faculties, is on the Greek committee and has helped to produce examination syllabi and DVDs. Jayne Cooper
Jayne trained at Elmhurst and went on to perform professionally in classical and flamenco, musical theatre and cabaret. She danced with the Ken Smith Dancers, then undertook the ‘Oklahoma’ national tour, followed by other shows and engagements with the ‘Foreign Parts’ cabaret ac. She also choreographed for cruise lines. Jayne is the Principal of her own dance academy and her former students are now performing professionally. Kathleen Davis
Kathleen received all of her dance training at the prestigious Ethel Hardy School of Dance in the North East of England. After completing her training she became a professional dancer and choregrapher working all over the world in theatre, cabaret and television. On leaving theatre, Kathleen returned to her home town of Sunderland and formed the Kathleen Davis Stage School where she trains pupils and full time students in all dance disciplines, Musical Theatre, Singing and Drama. Denise Doling
Denise has choreographed for pantomime, cabaret and operatic performances. She has run dance schools and trained students to professional level. She was Head of Dance at the Irish National College, organised the IDTA All Ireland Area and went on to form the Lakes Area of the IDTA. She has freelanced in schools and colleges and now, in Devon, continues to specialise in teacher training and student coaching. An Honorary IDTA Examiner and Life Member, she holds Fellowship qualifications in all theatre branches. Drusilla Duffill

Noeleen is a past examiner of the British Ballet Organisation and the British Association of Teachers of Dance and past Artistic Director for National BATD. She was the Principal of the Charlotte School of Dancing, from which students went on to perform in the West End, on television and radio. Janice Fullman
Janice was educated at the Arts Educational Schools at Tring and London and obtained her teaching diploma at the London College of Dance and Drama. She is now the Principal of her own school as well as freelancing. Many of her pupils are now dancing professionally as well as teaching and her school has enjoyed many successful years. Jennifer Haley
Jennifer trained in London with Maude Wells and Letty Littlewood and at the RAD, then worked professionally in the theatre, first as a dancer, then as singer and actress, and in variety with her own act. She had troupes of dancers ‘The Jenny Set’ appearing in shows all over the country. Together with her husband, Phillip Charles, they formed ‘Charles Haley’ Productions and presented pantomimes, summer shows, plays and musicals. Chris Hocking
Chris trained at Brooking School of Ballet, then went on to a very successful performing career. His direction & choreography credits include tours of ‘Oklahoma!’, ‘Seven Brides For Seven Brothers’, ‘South Pacific’, ‘Fiddler On The Roof’ (twice) and the British premiere of Jekyll and Hyde. He is Director of Musical Theatre The Arts Educational Schools, London and currently has former students in every West End show (as well as several on Broadway!). June Hornby
June is a Fellow and Life Member of the ISTD, who has been involved in festivals since she was a student. June has danced in professional pantomimes and summer shows and has also performed in cabaret. She has been Principal of her own school in Weymouth for many years and many of her ex-students have gone on to full-time training at well known dance colleges across the country. Paddy Hurlings
Paddy received her formal training at Bush Davies School, Romford and, upon completing her stage career, founded the Victoria School of Dance in Southsea which, in recent years, has been expanded to include the Hurlings Dance Centre. Paddy is an international examiner and lecturer for the ISTD and holds a number of responsible positions which include the chairmanship of the Tap Dance Faculty and the Theatre Dance Faculties Board. Jacqui Ison
Jacqui trained at the Doreen Bird College of Performing Arts, Royal Academy of Dance and Middlesex University. She has been a professional dancer with performance experience nationally and internationally including stage, film and television. She is a lecturer, moderator and experienced teacher who is Head of Dance at a new specialist status performing arts secondary school responsible for creating and developing the GCSE and AS/A2 level dance syllabus structure / work programmes, and department. Nathan James
Nathan trained at the MADD College, Nottingham and Middlesex University and at the National Tap Ensemble, USA. His career as a professional performer has included pantomimes for Qdos Entertainment, 42nd Street (Stuttgart), Tours of Copacabana and Hello, Dolly! He has also worked on cruise lines. He is now teaching full time at the Urdang Academy, London as Head of Tap and Contextual Studies, having previously taught at a number of schools including Arts Ed, Laine Theatre Arts, Bodywork Dance Studios and Mountview. Erica Jeans
Erica trained at the Arts Educational Schools and immediately on finishing her training, turned professional dancer in West End theatres and on television, later becoming ballet mistress and choreographer for large theatrical managements. Claire Jennings
Claire trained at the Royal Academy of Dancing and her performance experience includes touring as a member of a cabaret troupe, work with operatic and drama groups and television commercials. She has taught for many years in her own school and others and worked as a choreographer for local operatic societies, professional showcases, amateur shows, festivals and ice shows both professional and amateur. Gayle Johnson
Both at home and abroad ,Gayle has had an active involvement with many associations and, as a member of the TDCI and various other technical committees, her choreographic skills have had major input into new examination grades, for syllabi. After several appearances on TV and in pantomimes, Gayle’s career propelled internationally and she worked as part of a professional speciality act before opening her own school and staying actively involved with the ever-changing youth of today. Susan Latham
Sue trained with the late Madame Helena Lehmiski and, after completing a teacher training course, taught at the Birmingham Theatre School whilst dancing professionally in and around the Midlands. She then opened her first school in Birmingham and, since then, many of her students have graduated to examining, teaching or professional work, including West End Productions and television. During this time she has also been asked to choreograph many productions with operatic societies and professional groups in the county. Maureen Law
Maureen began dancing at the age of 3 years of age, being successful in RAD Ballet and NATD Tap examinations and then competing across the UK, including the ’Sunshine’ competition. She also performed in many shows, both amateur and professional during her performing career. Sylvia Lorden
Sylvia lives and works in Rugby and teaches a wide range of classes to students, children and adults, many of whom have had success on stage and TV or become teachers. She lectures throughout the UK and abroad. A Life and Advanced Member of the Royal Academy of Dance, she is a Member of the ISTD and IDTA and Fellow and Examiner of the BTDA and holds the Post Graduate Certificate in Performance Adjudication. Geoff Lucas
Over the past 30 years Geoff has had a varied career with highlights being in the musicals Cats, Heathcliff, A Chorus Line, Godspell, Divorce me Darling and many more! As a singer he was a member of Stutz Bear Cats the international harmony group for several years! He regularly guest lectures for major dance associations and also runs the school Elwick Academy started by his mother 62 yrs ago !As an adjudicator he works for both British Federation and All England Dance .Based in London but also in the north east on a weekly basis. Patricia Lupino Thompson
Patricia is a decendent of the famous Lupino family who came to England in the 17th Century and has been the Principal of the Lupino School for many years, from where many successful pupils have taken up classical, stage and teaching careers. When a young dancer, Patricia was a soloist in first rate productions and, later, choreographed for YTV, BCC and Astor Productions. She is an elected member of the Board of IDTA Directors, IDTA Tap Dance Faculty and in previous years, was IDTA Sales Director, including Fashion Shows. Angela Macdonald
Angela was taught by Madame Nadine Nicolaeva Legat in the Russian Method and then at Arts Educational School, at Tring and their London School. She competed in the Genee Gold Medal Awards before joining Festival Ballet Company with whom she toured all major theatres in the UK and across the World over the next five years. Donald McLennan
Donald received his early training from Dame Marie Rambert and Andrew Hardie. His theatre credits include Opera,, Musical Theatre and Ballet. He appeared with English National Opera, The musicals Mame Ginger Rogers Drury Lane and Promises Promises, choreography Michael Bennett. His TV performances include The Royal Command Performance 1970, The Cilla Black Show, The Carol Burnett Show, The Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyck Special. Deborah Norris
Deborah trained at Elmhurst Ballet School, University College of Ripon & York St John, De Montfort University, Limon Dance Institute and Steps on Broadway, in New York City. She works as a dancer, teacher and choreographer throughout the UK and internationally and recently completed a full time professional dance programme which allowed her to perform in New York, working with many modern Risa Steinberg (Limon), Dana Moore (Fosse) and Savion Glover (Rhythm Tap). Her award-winning choreography has been showcased nationally since winning the International Dance Grand Prix in Barcelona in 2009. Janet Palmer
After training in all disciplines, Janet combined teaching, as 1st Assistant at the Mollie Mayhews School of Dance, with a professional career. Engagements included leading roles in ‘The Boyfriend’, ‘Salad Days’, pantomimes and musical revues. Choreography engagements included a production of ‘Trilby’ and two revues, one of which was directed by Ken Loach. An examiner for the Royal Academy, Janet has conducted numerous examining tours and teachers’ courses for the Academy worldwide. At the start of All England Dance, she became a committee and ran the Northern Regional Finals. Janet continues to examine and teach and is now Vice-Chairman of All England Dance. Kathy Preston
Kathy trained at the Arts Educational School at Tring and in London and went on to perform professionally as an actor, singer and dancer in major West End theatre shows and on TV, following this by directing and choreography. A former Head of Dance and Drama at an independent girls school, she currently heads the dance and performing arts department at a prominent co-educational independent school as well as being Artistic Director/Principal of her own Dance and Drama Academy. She continues as a freelance director, choreographer and private coach and has also branched into the health sector, covering fitness and de-stress management, offering classes and workshop/seminar programmes. Jill Redford
Jill trained at Bush Davies, Bird College and Sussex University. After leaving college, she performed in pantomimes and summer seasons, following this up by working in theatre both in England and overseas. Francena Reston
Francena’s early training was at the Hammond School Chest, from where she graduated to Ballet Rambert at the Mercury Theatre, London. Professional performances have included working with Ken Dodd, the Bluebell Girls, Cilla Black, the Clark Brothers, the Black Abbots and Billie Pearce. Following this, she became principal of Blackpool Danceworks and Agency 2. Barbara was the Principal of a very successful school and has been a long serving member of the IDA Theatre Council and Tap Faculty. She produced Tap Grade and Professional Tap syllabuses, followed by a cassette and teaching video and assisted in the creation of a new Theatre Craft syllabus. More recently, she was involved with the Tap Faculty in producing teaching DVDs and a Performers’ Award. A member of the IDTA Board of Directors, Standards Board and Overseas Committee, she was honoured to receive the Carl Alan Award for outstanding services to Dance in 2003 and 2007 and the first ever Classique de Danse Professional Theatre Award. Madeleine Shea
Madeleine trained at London College of Dance and Drama, going on to dance professionally in TV shows and the theatre and then employed by the BBC as a choreographer and visual effects designer. She ran her own school for many years, including ballroom. In addition, she has taught extensively in several dance schools and has been engaged by the Inner London Education Authority to provide, at various times, ‘Choreography for youth theatre groups’ and adult classes in Jazz, Ballet and Tap. Denise Skinner
Denise trained at the Hylton Bromley Theatre School, studying all dance genres, drama and singing. After performance work, she continued her teacher training gaining fellowships in Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Theatrecraft. Denise teaches all age groups and levels at her own school and examines for the IDTA. She also lectures regularly including at RAD Ssummer schools. With other faculty members, Denise helped create with the IDTA musical theatre syllabus and new theatrecraft grades and here her professional experience as a performer and choreographer was most helpful. Patricia Snowdon
Patricia Snowdon trained at the London College of Dance and Drama and has a Bachelor of Philosophy Degree in Ballet and Contextual Studies awarded by the Royal Academy of Dance and validated by the University of Durham. She became principal of her own school, in addition to teaching in independent schools and adult education centres. Many of her past pupils have progressed to the top performing arts schools and are now performing in this country and overseas. Jacqueline Storey
Jacquie trained at the Arts Educational School, London, having become the English National Ballet Champion at the age of 16 years. She went on to work in the West End, at regional theatres and in TV and radio and played several leading roles including Wizard of Oz, Calamity Jane, My Fair Lady, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. A dancer, singer, teacher, director, producer, choreographer and presenter, she is the Principal of The Jacqueline Storey Theatre School; Show Director at Lancing College and choreographer for a touring cabaret group. Laura Symonds
Laura trained at the Royal Ballet School and Arts Educational School, London, going on to play a range of principal roles in the West End and regional theatre productions and to do a great deal of work in television, from pantomime to Sunday Night at the London Palladium, the Engelbert Humperdinck Show and two Royal Command Performances. She was the resident singer on the Roy Castle Show and had a solo recording contract with Philips. Yasmin Taylor-Hazzard
Yasmin trained at the Royal Ballet School, graduating with a special prize from Dame Ninette de Valois, and went on to study with Ballet Rambert. She worked with the National Youth Ballet as an assistant choreographer in their production of the Dolls House at Sadlers Wells Theatre. She then went on to dance with the Dutch National Ballet in their tour of Romeo and Juliet. Judith Vardy
Judith holds Fellowship Status with ISTD and an ALAM (Acting). After travelling the world as a professional dancer touring in Europe, Japan, and North America and the West End, she became Director and Principal of her own theatre school in Warwickshire. She is a guest teacher/choreographer at Dr Phillips Theatre Magnet, Florida, and has lectured at Dance Teachers Web Conference & Expo in Las Vegas. Judith is a Ballet Examiner with the RAD, which enables her to travel all over the world grading RAD pupils. Carol trained at Stella Mann College and, on graduating, danced professionally whilst also teaching dancing in vocational colleges. She now runs two part-time schools, a ballet school in Hampstead and a performing arts school in Tonbridge, Kent. Many pupils compete in local Federation festivals and are successful in finals at the Peacock Theatre. Many pupils go on to vocational colleges and shows in the West End or teaching. Angie Whittle
Angie trained at Bird College with further professional development at The Centre of Performing Arts. She worked as a dancer and choreographer in the UK and overseas, before taking up freelance teaching work for Sylvia Young, Pineapple Studios, Patricia Hammond Theatre School amongst others. Barbara Wood
From an early age, Barbara knew she wanted to be a dance teacher. After studying all aspects of cabaret and classical dance to advanced levels, she decided to perform professionally for a short time, purely to pass on the required knowledge to any future pupils wishing to take that path. Linda Young
Linda started dancing at the age of 3 and completed her training at the Nesta Brooking School of Dance, London. She taught in the UK and overseas before founding her own School in North London. She has recently moved to the west country, and works freelance. As a member of the Cecchetti Society, she worked on the sub-committee responsible for the creation of the Performance Awards, and was also the proud recipient of the Peter Pearson Scholarship.
