DBS Checking Service Temporarily Paused
Due to the practical challenges presented by the coronavirus outbreak, we have had to make the decision to temporarily pause our DBS checking service. This service relies on staff being present in the office to receive and check completed forms and ID documents. At the moment, we cannot do this and ensure the safety of the staff team.
What if I have sent a form to you recently?
The form will not be processed but do be assured that it will be processed as soon as the restrictions are lifted and we are able to reinstate this service.
My current DBS checks were done 3 years ago. Does this mean that they will expire?
The Federation recommends that festivals complete a DBS check on relevant volunteers every 3 years. This is our recommendation. The DBS checks themselves do not have an expiry date on them. If you have a valid DBS check which is now approaching 3 years old then please do not worry. This is still a valid DBS check. The Federation has acknowledged that due to the current unprecedented circumstances, our recommendation for festivals to renew their DBS checks every 3 years needs to be temporarily extended.
What if I have a new volunteer who has not had a DBS check at all?
Unfortunately, we will not be able to send out DBS forms to you at the moment. If you will be working with a volunteer who does not have a valid DBS check in place then please ensure that they do not do any unsupervised regulated activity. Generally, this means that you should make sure that the volunteer does not work with alone with children or vulnerable adults. When will the DBS checking service resume?
At the moment, we cannot confirm a date when this service will resume. This depends on what happens with the restrictions imposed by the Government in response to the coronavirus outbreak. As soon as we are able to resume this service, we will make contact with you.

The Federation is a Registered Body with the Disclosure and Barring Service and we are able to obtain Enhanced Disclosure checks for individuals. We are unable to obtain Standard Disclosure checks for individuals. If you need any clarification on which disclosure check is required, please call Festivals House.
How much does this cost?
- Paid positions - The cost of an Enhanced check for a paid position is £60.
- Volunteer positions -The cost of an Enhanced check for a volunteer position is £20.
How do I request a check?
