Shelley has been involved in the festival movement since she was four years old. As a shy child, her mother decided to enlist the help of a qualified speech and drama teacher.
Having gained confidence through participation in festivals, Shelley went on to win several Northern Ireland Public Speaking Competitions, and successfully landed a role in a the critically acclaimed Ulster Youth Theatre.
Shelley gained a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours from Manchester Metropolitan University. After graduating Shelley moved to London and pursued a career in television production, working for the BBC. She returned to Northern Ireland in 2002 and established a school of speech, drama, communication and musical theatre.
Shelley has worked as a musical theatre director and delivers drama workshops to schools and theatre groups. She provides communication skills training to adults and for young people with learning difficulties.
Shelley has presented several corporate training videos and provided voice-over for televised documentaries. Shelley also continues to work as a freelance film and television producer.
Shelley’s students frequently participate in film and television productions, but the highlight of their academic year is performing in their local festivals.
Shelley regards festivals as an ideal performance training ground, an invaluable educational resource and personal development platform.
